Before Aristotle , Imhotep, the Egyptian physician, advised “ Eat, drink and be merry ; for tomorrow we die .” We are animals, so satisfying our animal needs and wants is necessary to attain real happiness . Gluttony is gilding the lily of optimum consumption .

I would say sociality/ morality is the highest human form of virtue for obtaining happiness. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander ; love thy neighbor as thyself; Jesus has it over Aristotle on this issue.

Intellectual pursuits are icing on the cake of happiness for the individual. Scientific pursuits that benefit society as a whole are socially / morally virtuous .

Pace Aristotle : he’s standing on his head ; turn him upright onto his feet .
